Tongi, Jan 31 (V7N) – The first phase of Bishwa Ijtema, one of the world’s largest Islamic congregations, began today on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi with the participation of lakhs of devotees. The grand event, led by Maulana Mohammad Jobair, is being held in two phases.

The Friday prayers started at 1:53 PM, preceded by a sermon at 1:43 PM, both conducted by Maulana Jobair. Due to the overwhelming number of devotees, many had to offer prayers on adjacent roads, highways, and open spaces around the main Ijtema field.

Two-Phase Ijtema Led by Maulana Jobair’s Followers

In previous years, the two factions of Tablighi Jamaat, led by Maulana Jobair and Maulana Saad Kandhalvi, held separate Ijtemas in two phases. However, for the first time, Maulana Jobair’s followers are holding both phases independently.

  • First Phase: January 31 – February 2 (with participants from 41 districts and part of Dhaka)
  • Second Phase: February 3 – February 5
  • Final Prayers (Akheri Munajat): February 2 and 5 respectively.

Meanwhile, the followers of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi are scheduled to hold their Ijtema from February 14 to 16.

Massive Turnout and Arrangements

Authorities have deployed extensive security measures, including CCTV surveillance, observation towers, and intelligence monitoring, to ensure the safety of the gathering. Special railway and transport services have also been arranged to facilitate the movement of devotees.

As the event progresses, the number of attendees is expected to increase significantly, with the final prayers drawing millions of worshippers seeking divine blessings.
