Dhaka, Jan 31 (V7N) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali has issued a stern warning to the banned Chhatra League regarding any plans to hold programs or demonstrations. He emphasized that action would be taken against the group if they attempt to organize any activities.
The DMP Commissioner made this statement in response to questions from journalists following an inspection of the security arrangements at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair on Friday.
Arrests and Preparedness
Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali mentioned that the police have already arrested several leaders of the banned Chhatra League, who are currently in jail. He emphasized that if the group attempts to initiate any program, the authorities will not hesitate to take appropriate legal action.
However, he also added that, at this point, he does not see an immediate security threat arising from their activities.
Dealing with Program Announcements
The Commissioner also noted that in the current media era, various groups and organizations are announcing programs and making video messages. He assured the public that the authorities are addressing such issues on a daily basis to maintain peace and security in the capital.
This comes amid the announcement by the Awami League and the banned Chhatra League to hold various programs, including blockades and hartals, throughout the month of February.
