Comilla, Feb 01 (V7N) — The camp commander has been withdrawn following the death of Md. Touhidur Rahman (40), who was arrested by joint forces from Adarsh Sadar Upazila in Comilla. A high-level investigation committee has also been formed to probe the incident, according to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday.

ISPR described Touhidur’s death as a "sad incident" and assured that actions would be taken under military law if any personnel are found guilty.

Touhidur Rahman was arrested on January 31 during a joint operation based on specific allegations. He was later taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His brother, Abul Kalam Azad Tipu, recounted the arrest, stating that three army vehicles and a red car arrived at their home in Italla village, Panchthubi Union, at around 2:30 AM on Thursday. "They searched my brother’s room, claiming he had weapons. Despite our denial, they arrested him. By morning, we couldn’t find him at any police station," he said.

Later, the family was informed by SI Morshed of Kotwali Model Police Station that Touhidur had been found unconscious in Gomti Vilas and taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead. "We saw his body with injury marks," Tipu added, demanding a fair investigation.

Tanvir Ahmed, a doctor at Comilla Medical College Hospital, confirmed that the police brought Touhidur to the emergency department at around 12:30 PM on Friday. "He had already passed away before arrival. There were injury marks on various parts of his body," he stated.

Authorities have assured a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, with ISPR emphasizing that justice will be served if wrongdoing is found.
