Dhaka, Feb 06 (V7N)— The interim government has announced the recipients of the Ekushey Padak 2025, one of Bangladesh's highest civilian honours, in recognition of outstanding contributions to various fields. This year, 14 individuals and the Bangladesh women's football team will be awarded for their achievements in language and literature, arts, research, sports, and other fields.
The Ministry of Culture made the announcement in a press release on Thursday.
Among the awardees, Shahidul Zahir (posthumously) and Helal Hafiz (posthumously) have been honoured for their contributions to language and literature, while Dr. Niaz Zaman will receive the award for her contributions to education.
In the arts category, Ustad Nirod Baran Barua and Ferdous Ara will receive the award for their work in music, Azizur Rahman (posthumously) for film, and Rokeya Sultana for painting. Nasir Ali Mamun is being recognized for his contributions to photography.
For social service, Md. Yusuf Chowdhury (posthumously) is being awarded. Moidul Hasan is being honoured for research, while Dr. Shahidul Alam (Drik) will receive the award for his work in culture and education.
In journalism and human rights, Mahmudur Rahman (Amar Desh) will receive the award for human rights and journalism, and Mahfuzullah for journalism. Mehedi Hasan Khan, the creator of Avro Keyboard, is being awarded for his contributions to science and technology.
The Bangladesh women's football team is being recognized for their achievements in sports, marking a significant moment for women's athletics in the country.
The Ekushey Padak, introduced in 1976, is awarded annually on February 21, International Mother Language Day, in honour of those who have made significant contributions to the nation's cultural, social, and intellectual progress. The awardees will receive a gold medal, a certificate, and a financial grant.
