Dhaka, Feb 08 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that those responsible for the recent attack on students in Gazipur will be brought to justice and face the maximum punishment. He made these remarks while speaking to reporters during a visit to the injured students at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 10 PM on Friday at the residence of former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur’s Dhirashram area. The injured students alleged that leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League were behind the attack.

According to local sources, suspicious individuals had been seen loitering near Mozammel Haque’s residence since Friday evening. Suddenly, violence erupted as these individuals attacked the house and began vandalizing property. A mosque nearby made an announcement over its microphone warning locals of a robbery in progress. This prompted local Awami League leaders, activists, and residents to rush to the scene in an attempt to stop the alleged intruders. A violent clash ensued, leaving at least 15 people injured.

The injured were initially taken to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, with eight of the more severely wounded transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment. The situation was brought under control after army personnel arrived at the scene.

In the aftermath of the attack, Sarjis Alam, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, posted a provocative message on Facebook, stating, "Today will be the last day of Awami terrorists in Gazipur, we are coming..."

In response to the incident, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens Committee have announced a rally in Gazipur today to protest the attack and demand justice for the injured.

The situation remains tense, with authorities on high alert to prevent further violence.
