Dhaka, Feb 15 (V7N) – Changes are coming to the advisory council, with several student representatives, including Information and Broadcasting Advisor Nahid Islam, expected to resign within a few days.
In an interview with the media, Nahid Islam revealed that a new political party, formed by anti-discrimination student leaders, will be officially announced by the end of this month.
The fall of the Awami League government through mass protests, particularly the quota abolition movement, set the stage for student activism to transition into mainstream politics. In September, students formed the National Citizens Committee to build national consensus on rebuilding the country. Now, a new political party is emerging from this movement.
Nahid Islam stated, "There are plans for a new political party led by students. If I decide to join, I must resign from the government."
He added, "Forming a political party and participating in elections are different matters. We are aware of the challenges, but we believe this is the right step forward."
Nahid Islam also suggested that a ban on the Awami League could come through a judicial process rather than an ordinance, possibly before the upcoming elections.
Furthermore, he noted that BNP’s stance on elections has helped reduce tensions with the interim government, hinting at a shifting political landscape.
With student leaders preparing to enter formal politics, Bangladesh’s political arena is set for significant changes in the coming months.
