Dhaka, Feb 15 (V7N) – Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has declared that the first phase of the interim government has concluded, marking the beginning of the second phase with political dialogue.
Speaking at the National Consensus Commission’s meeting with political parties on Saturday (February 15), Dr. Yunus emphasized the need to move away from past authoritarian structures and work toward building a disciplined and democratic country.
‘Laws Should Be Respected, Not Manipulated’
Criticizing the previous government, Dr. Yunus stated:
"Laws are meant to be followed and respected, not turned into a joke. The previous regime misused legal frameworks. Our goal is to introduce reforms that will be universally accepted and beneficial for the future."
He highlighted that several key recommendations from the Reform Commission reports have been proposed, urging political leaders to accept and implement reforms swiftly for national progress.
A Call for Unity and Consensus
Dr. Yunus underscored that the ongoing political dialogue is aimed at state-building, not imposing authority.
"This is an opportunity for all of us. We need consensus to utilize it effectively. The recommendations have been presented to facilitate discussion, but the decision on the structure of our society and governance lies with you," he told political leaders.
Looking Ahead: The Third Chapter
Dr. Yunus concluded with a vision for the future:
"If we can maintain the same success in the second phase as in the first, we will achieve success in the third phase—where we can build the Bangladesh we all desire. Unity is the key to our progress."
With the political dialogue now underway, the National Consensus Commission is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s democratic roadmap in the coming months.
