Dhaka, Feb 17 (V7N) – The government has officially declared those who lost their lives in the July Mass Uprising as "July Martyrs" and those injured as "July Fighters," offering them official recognition and financial assistance.
Farooq-e-Azam, Advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and Disaster Management and Relief, made the announcement on Monday (February 17) after the third session of the District Commissioners (DC) Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
Financial and Medical Support for Martyrs’ Families
Farooq-e-Azam stated that the families of July Martyrs will receive official certificates and identity cards. Additionally, they will receive Tk 3 million in savings certificates, disbursed in two phases:
- Tk 1 million in the current fiscal year
- Tk 2 million in the next fiscal year
Support and Allowances for Injured Protesters
The government has categorized support for the July Fighters into three groups based on the severity of injuries:

Severely Injured (lifelong disability)
- One-time payment: Tk 5 lakh
- Monthly allowance: Tk 20,000
- Lifelong medical benefits

Limb Loss Victims
- One-time payment: Tk 3 lakh
- Monthly allowance: Tk 15,000
- Lifelong medical benefits

Minor Injuries (Recovered Fighters)
- No monthly allowance
- Priority in rehabilitation and employment
The advisor added that injured protesters will receive government-funded training and job opportunities in government, semi-government, and private sectors based on merit.
Formation of the ‘July Directorate’
Farooq-e-Azam also confirmed that the formation of the July Directorate is in its final stage and is expected to be completed within the week. This directorate will oversee all policies and implementation of benefits for the July Martyrs and Fighters.
The government is also working on verifying the authenticity of injured protesters' lists and ensuring smooth financial and medical support distribution. District administrations will assist in sending injured fighters to PG hospitals and other specialized medical facilities for better treatment.
The move is seen as a major step towards officially recognizing the sacrifices made during the July Mass Uprising, which played a pivotal role in shaping Bangladesh’s political landscape.
