Dhaka, Feb 19 (V7N)— Italy has assured a swift resolution of pending visa applications for Bangladeshi workers, following a meeting between Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Maria Tripodi and Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain.

The assurance came during a courtesy call on Wednesday morning, marking the first ministerial-level visit from a European Union country since the formation of Bangladesh’s interim government six months ago.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Italy is committed to expediting decisions on long-standing visa applications to facilitate Bangladeshi workers' entry into the country.

Maria Tripodi, who arrived in Dhaka for a two-day visit, expressed satisfaction with the growing trade relations between Italy and Bangladesh. She highlighted Italy’s interest in expanding cooperation, particularly in the textile and defense sectors.

During the discussions, both countries also agreed on measures to reduce illegal immigration while ensuring smoother processes for regular migration.

This visit reflects Italy’s ongoing commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with Bangladesh, paving the way for enhanced bilateral collaboration in various sectors.
