Dhaka, Feb 25 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has issued a stern warning that no member of any law enforcement force will be spared if found negligent in maintaining law and order.

He made this statement while speaking to reporters after paying tribute at the Banani Military Cemetery on Tuesday morning (February 25) in observance of National Martyrs' Day.

Strict Measures in Law Enforcement Operations

Regarding the ongoing joint operation against theft, robbery, and snatching, which began on Monday night (February 24), the Home Affairs Advisor said:

"If we find any negligence by any member of any force during the operation, no one will be spared. I have arranged this operation in a way that if any of my officers or members of any force fail in their duty, they will be brought under the law."

He made it clear that all security agencies—including the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Ansar, and the Prisons Department—will be held accountable for any failures.

Assurance of Fair Trial in the Peelkhana Massacre Case

Addressing the trial of the 2009 Peelkhana massacre, where 74 people, including 57 army officers, were brutally killed during a mutiny at the then Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) headquarters, he reaffirmed:

"Every effort is being made to ensure a fair trial. The National Independent Investigation Commission is actively working on this matter."

Tributes on National Martyrs' Day

Earlier in the day, high-ranking state officials paid floral tributes at the Banani Military Cemetery in remembrance of the martyrs.

  • The President’s military secretary and the Principal Advisor’s military secretary placed wreaths on their behalf.
  • The three service chiefs, the Senior Secretary of the Public Security Division, the BGB Director General, and six members of the martyrs' families also paid floral tributes.

The government has officially recognized February 25 as National Martyrs' Day to honor those killed in the Peelkhana tragedy, marking the first observance of this national day.
