Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emphasized today the government's significant efforts in equipping the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) with cutting-edge technology to ensure robust security along the nation's borders and effectively combat transnational crimes.
Addressing a gathering as the chief guest at an event commemorating BGB Day-2024, held at Bir Uttam Anwar Hossain Parade Ground in the city, Prime Minister Hasina underscored the strategic importance of deploying smart digital surveillance systems and advanced technical response mechanisms along the borders. These measures are aimed at countering inter-country terrorism and ensuring comprehensive security, she emphasized.
Prime Minister Hasina reiterated the government's steadfast commitment to realizing the 'Border Guard Bangladesh Vision-2041', which seeks to elevate the BGB into a world-class border protection force. This vision, aligned with the aspirations of a developed and prosperous Bangladesh envisaged by the Father of the Nation, underscores the paramount importance of trust and reliability, she emphasized.
Highlighting legislative reforms, Prime Minister Hasina outlined the significance of the Border Guard Bangladesh Act, 2010, which has strengthened the institutional framework of the force. She also detailed substantial investments made to modernize the BGB, including the establishment of specialized training facilities aimed at enhancing professional capacities.
In terms of infrastructure development, Prime Minister Hasina pointed out the construction of over 1036 kilometers of frontier roads with India and 317 kilometers with Myanmar. Additionally, she highlighted the strategic deployment of Border Outposts (BOPs), which have significantly bolstered surveillance along vulnerable frontiers.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of the BGB in maintaining security and safety, particularly at Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar, Prime Minister Hasina commended their efforts in combating smuggling and cross-border crimes, ensuring the safety of lives and properties.
Amidst ongoing geopolitical challenges, Prime Minister Hasina reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to self-reliance in food production. She urged collective efforts to utilize every inch of land for cultivation, emphasizing the importance of maximizing agricultural potential.
The address, attended by dignitaries including Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and Senior Secretary of the Public Security Division Md. Mustafizur Rahman, underscored Bangladesh's unwavering dedication to advancing border security and fostering regional stability.
