Dhaka, Feb 28 (V7N) – Prominent theatre personality Syed Jamil Ahmed has announced his resignation from the post of Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
He made the announcement on Friday evening during the closing ceremony of the ‘Munir Chowdhury First National Drama Festival’, organized by the Training Department of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
During the event, Jamil Ahmed, who was the chief guest, handed over his resignation letter to Shilpakala Academy Secretary Mohammad Wares Hossain, who was also present on stage. However, Wares Hossain clarified that he does not have the authority to officially accept the resignation.
"I have only accepted this as the Secretary of Shilpakala, but no officer or employee of the Academy has officially accepted the resignation," Wares Hossain told the audience.
Jamil Ahmed assumed the role of Director General of the Shilpakala Academy on August 5, 2024, following the political transition after the fall of the Awami League government. His resignation comes just five and a half months into his tenure.
The announcement has sparked speculation about the reasons behind his decision, though no official statement has been made by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs regarding the acceptance of his resignation.
