Dhaka, Mar 07 (V7N)- With the holy month of Ramadan underway, people across the country are preparing to return to their hometowns to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their loved ones. As train travel remains the most preferred mode of transportation, Bangladesh Railway has announced its Eid ticket sale schedule, which will be conducted completely online this year.
The 7-day advance ticket sale for intercity trains will begin on March 14, following this schedule:
- March 14 → Tickets for March 24
- March 15 → Tickets for March 25
- March 16 → Tickets for March 26
- March 17 → Tickets for March 27
- March 18 → Tickets for March 28
- March 19 → Tickets for March 29
- March 20 → Tickets for March 30
Tickets for March 31, April 1, and April 2 will be sold depending on the moon sighting.
Railway Secretary Md. Fahimul Islam stated that the period from March 24 to March 30 has been designated as Eid Yatra. To accommodate the surge in passengers, Bangladesh Railway has taken the following measures:
10 special trains will operate on March 27-28 (one on the 27th, four on the 28th).
Additional coaches will be added to intercity trains to handle the increased passenger load.
Special security measures will be in place to prevent ticket black marketing and passenger harassment.
Relief trains and other operational activities will be implemented to ensure a smooth journey for travelers.
On regular days, about 35,500 passengers travel on intercity trains across Bangladesh. However, during Eid, this number rises to nearly 50,000. Railway officials and employees will be on high alert to manage the additional rush efficiently.
Joint Director General (Operations) Mohammad Nazmul Islam assured that the entire advance ticket system will be managed online to streamline the process and avoid overcrowding at ticket counters.
Additionally, the sale of return tickets may begin on March 24, allowing passengers to plan their return journeys after Eid.
