Dhaka, Mar 09 (V7N) – Chief Advisor to the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has alleged that the defunct dictatorship is investing huge sums of money to create anarchy in the country. He urged the nation to remain as vigilant as in a war-like situation to safeguard peace and stability.
Speaking as the chief guest at the International Women’s Day-2025 celebration at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Saturday (March 9), Dr. Yunus called for utmost vigilance to protect women and children, urging society to unite against oppression.
Dr. Yunus emphasized that women’s rights and freedoms have been achieved through relentless struggle. He recalled women’s participation in movements ranging from Tebhaga and the anti-British resistance to the Language Movement and the Liberation War.
"We have forgotten many heroic women in history," he lamented, adding, “But we will never let the leadership and sacrifice of the July daughters be forgotten.”
The Chief Advisor stated that the dream of a ‘New Bangladesh’ would be impossible without ensuring women’s rights. He stressed that men must also stand as fellow fighters in the struggle for gender equality.
“In our envisioned Bangladesh, every parent, brother, and sister will have guaranteed and recognized rights,” he added, urging men to actively support women’s empowerment.
Dr. Yunus asserted that International Women’s Day serves as a reminder of women’s historic struggles and a call to action for continued progress.
“No matter the obstacles, we will make full use of the opportunities history has given us. We will build a new Bangladesh. This is our promise.”
The event, covered by BSS, was attended by government officials, civil society representatives, and women’s rights activists.
