Dhaka, Mar 13 (V7N) – The Health Ministry has proposed increasing the maximum age limit for applying to the health cadre BCS exam from 32 to 34 years. This decision takes into account the six-year duration of the MBBS course, including internship, to ensure more medical graduates have the opportunity to enter public service.

The announcement was made by Professor Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on Health Affairs, during a press briefing at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon. He emphasized that the proposal aims to address the challenges faced by medical graduates and ensure adequate staffing in the public health sector.

In response to the ongoing healthcare crisis, 2,000 doctors will be appointed through a special BCS on an urgent basis. Additionally, the government has created 7,000 supernumerary posts to accommodate doctors who have been deprived of opportunities in the past.

Addressing concerns regarding protests and demands from healthcare professionals, Dr. Sayedur urged doctors to bring their grievances to the ministry for resolution. He assured that rational demands will be considered, but stressed that patients should not be held hostage during protests or work stoppages.

Furthermore, he announced the formation of a committee to revise the course curriculum of MATS (Medical Assistant Training School) to enhance the quality of medical education and training. In terms of financial security for medical professionals, Dr. Sayedur clarified that while a minimum salary structure for private doctors will be established, it will not be equivalent to a government pay scale.

These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to improving the healthcare sector, ensuring fair opportunities for doctors, and maintaining the quality of medical education in Bangladesh.
