Bangkok, Apr 04 (V7N) – In a significant step towards enhancing international collaboration in combating corruption, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh and the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) of Thailand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The agreement was formalized on Friday on the sidelines of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, Thailand. The MoU was signed by ACC Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen and NACC President Suchart Trakulkasemsuk on behalf of their respective institutions.
Principal Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, and Thai Prime Minister Phaython Shinawatra were present at the signing ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Abdul Momen expressed optimism that the new MoU will significantly strengthen both countries’ efforts in the fight against corruption. “Many Bangladeshi corrupt individuals have taken refuge in neighboring countries,” he said. “We believe this MoU will assist in identifying and bringing them to justice.”
The agreement aligns with Article 48 of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which promotes bilateral and multilateral agreements for direct cooperation between law enforcement agencies across countries.
Under the MoU, Bangladesh and Thailand have committed to:
-
Exchange primary information relevant to corruption prevention,
-
Share best practices in data collection and case handling,
-
Exchange investigative information,
-
Undertake joint projects and studies, and
-
Engage in cooperative activities to effectively combat corruption.
The MoU is expected to open new avenues for both nations in strengthening anti-corruption frameworks and ensuring greater accountability and transparency through cross-border collaboration.
