Dhaka, Apr 27 (V7N) — Bangladesh supports resolving the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir issue through dialogue and peaceful means. If both countries seek assistance, Bangladesh is ready to play the role of mediator; however, Dhaka is cautious about taking any premature steps.
Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain made these remarks while speaking to reporters at the Foreign Ministry on Sunday (April 27).
"Our position is clear — we want peace in South Asia," he said. "We are aware that India and Pakistan have a long history of both conflict and cooperation. However, we do not want a situation that could pose a danger to the people of this region."
The Foreign Affairs Advisor emphasized that Bangladesh would prefer India and Pakistan to resolve their issues directly through discussions. "If they seek help, Bangladesh is willing to mediate," he said. "But we do not want to overstep or take unnecessary initiatives."
He also mentioned that no official communication has been made regarding mediation yet, although Bangladesh has received informal offers to mediate from one or two other countries.
