Dhaka, May 23, (V7N) — The Advisory Council of the interim government has given final approval to the draft of the Welfare and Rehabilitation Ordinance, 2025 aimed at supporting the families of martyrs and injured students of the July Uprising.

The approval came during the Council's 29th meeting, held on Thursday (May 22) at the office of the Chief Advisor, presided over by Chief Advisor Dr. Mohammad Yunus.

Later in the afternoon, Suman Mehedi, Public Relations Officer of the Cabinet Division, confirmed the development to the government news agency. A press release from the Council of Ministers Department stated that the ordinance—proposed by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs—was granted final approval subject to legal vetting by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Department.

The ordinance is part of a broader government initiative to provide structured support and rehabilitation for those affected during the historic mass uprising of students in July.

The Advisory Council also approved a series of other proposals, including:

In-principle and final approval of The Protection and Conservation of Fish (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, raised by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, also pending vetting.

A proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh and the Netherlands for cooperation in naval defense equipment.

A directive that ministries and departments must submit well-considered opinions on Reform Commission recommendations, including implementability, timeline, and projected impacts. The Cabinet Division has been tasked with overseeing coordination of this process.

Final approval of the Government Services Ordinance (Amendment), 2025, again subject to legal review.

These developments mark a significant step in the interim government’s efforts to institutionalize reforms and ensure accountability, social justice, and administrative modernization across various sectors.
