Dhaka, May 30 (V7N) – The globally acclaimed digital payment platform Google Pay is set to begin its official operations in Bangladesh within the next one month, marking a major step forward in the country’s digital financial ecosystem.

The announcement was made by Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sports, through a post on his verified Facebook account.

“After a long wait, the globally popular digital payment service 'Google Pay' is going to be officially launched in Bangladesh,” Bhuiyan wrote.

With the upcoming launch, smartphone users in Bangladesh will be able to use their devices as a complete digital wallet, enabling them to make contactless payments, store digital cards, and perform secure online transactions without the need for carrying physical debit or credit cards.

  • Convenience: Users can pay directly via their smartphones.

  • Security: Enhanced safety with Google’s built-in security features.

  • Inclusivity: Easier access to digital payments for a broader section of the population.

Bhuiyan emphasized that the service will play a significant role in modernizing the country’s financial infrastructure, reducing the reliance on traditional banking methods and promoting financial inclusion.

Industry insiders and tech enthusiasts have welcomed the news with enthusiasm, as Google Pay’s arrival adds to the growing list of global fintech services making their way into the Bangladeshi market. The move is seen as a boost for e-commerce, ride-sharing, utility bill payments, and other digital platforms reliant on seamless payment systems.

As Bangladesh pushes toward becoming a “Smart Bangladesh” by 2041, the integration of Google Pay is expected to be a key milestone in that transformation.
