The legendary Rabindra Sangeet singer, Sadi Mohammad, breathed his last on Wednesday evening at the age of 70. His demise occurred around 7:30 pm.

Renowned dancer Shamim Ara Nipa confirmed the news of his passing. Currently, his body is being held at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

Although primarily speculated to be a case of self-inflicted harm, the exact cause of his death remains uncertain.

Nipa shared insights into Mohammad's mental state, revealing that he had been experiencing emotional distress since the passing of his mother. His mother, Jebunnesha Salim Ullah, aged 96, had passed away on July 8, 2023, due to old age. Mohammad, a graduate and postgraduate in Rabindra Sangeet from Visva-Bharati University, struggled with his mental health and possibly succumbed to the grief of losing his mother. He observed a fast and partook in iftar on the day of his passing.

Throughout his career, Mohammad made significant contributions to music, debuting as a music composer in 2007 with the album "Amakey Khujey Pabey Bhorer Shishirey." He later released albums such as "Srabon Akashey" in 2009 and "Sharthok Janom Amar" in 2012.

Mohammad also served as the director of the organization Rabi Raag and was part of a family deeply rooted in music and art. He was one of nine siblings, including Shameem Mohammad and renowned dancer Shibli Mohammad. Their father, Salimullah, lost his life during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

Mohammad's contributions to music were recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award by Channel i in 2017 and the Rabindra Award by Bangla Academy in 2025.
