Gopalganj, July 16, (V7N) – Gopalganj district erupted into violent clashes following an attack on the convoy of National Citizens Party (NCP) leaders returning from a rally. The confrontation escalated throughout the day, prompting authorities to impose a curfew to restore order.
Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Baharul Alam are closely monitoring the situation from the police headquarters. Asif Mahmud shared this update on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday (July 16).
His post included three pictures showing CCTV footage from multiple locations in Gopalganj being displayed on large monitors, with the advisors and IGP seated in front, observing the developments in real time.
In his caption, Asif Mahmud emphasized that the curfew is strictly in place and instructed that no members of the general public should leave their homes unless in a life-threatening emergency. He also noted that the number of law enforcement personnel deployed in the district has been significantly increased to manage the volatile situation.
