President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina honored the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Sunday in Tungipara on his 104th birth anniversary, coinciding with National Children's Day 2024.

The president and prime minister paid tribute by laying wreaths at the mausoleum of Bangladesh's founding father in Tungipara of Gopalganj district at 10:38 am.

President Shahabuddin initiated by placing a wreath at Bangabandhu's grave, followed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

After placing the wreaths, they observed a moment of silence to express their deep respect for Bangabandhu's memory. A smartly turned-out contingent from the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force presented an honor guard on the occasion.

Bangabandhu's younger daughter, Sheikh Rehana, and other family members were also present.

Accompanied by senior leaders of the ruling Awami League (AL), Sheikh Hasina, also the president of AL, laid another wreath at Bangabandhu's grave on behalf of her party.

Both the president and the prime minister offered prayers and joined in a moment of silence to honor the departed souls of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15 tragedy.

Cabinet members, PM's advisers, parliament members, and AL senior leaders attended the ceremony.

The president and prime minister signed the visitor's book at the mausoleum premises.

Upon his arrival at the mausoleum, President Mohammed Shahabuddin was greeted by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier, at 7 am, the prime minister paid her respects to the revered leader by laying a wreath at his portrait in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka.

Later in the day, she unveiled a commemorative postage stamp, a first-day cover, and a data card at her official residence in Dhaka, marking the 104th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu.

Bangabandhu's birthday has long been observed across the nation as National Children's Day. He was born on this day in 1920 in Tungipara village of Gopalganj sub-division, now district, into a respected Muslim family.
