Dhaka, Aug 01 (V7N) – Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has said that even the walls became a voice of protest during the mass uprising, and this 'July Artwork' will now stand as a symbolic barrier against any return of fascism.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the ‘July Artwork’ graffiti exhibition at the Victory Memorial in the capital on Friday afternoon.
"On July 24, the walls echoed with the cries of resistance. These artworks reflect the pain, exploitation, and oppression people faced during 16 years of fascist rule," said Asif Mahmud. “When people walk these streets, they will witness that memory through graffiti.”
He also emphasized that "building the Bangladesh envisioned by the July fighters is a difficult and long-term task, but it will be achieved with the collective support of the people."
Graffiti Project Details:
In collaboration with Dhaka North City Corporation, artists have painted graffiti on 36 pillars along the stretch from Victory Memorial to Agargaon via Karwan Bazar, depicting scenes of resistance, repression, and the spirit of the July Uprising.
The ‘July Artwork’ initiative is intended to serve both as a public art project and a historical reminder of the long struggle against authoritarianism and for democratic rights in Bangladesh.
