A man was apprehended by police for allegedly charging pedestrians money to cross the highway divider using ladders, following the circulation of a viral video on Facebook.
The arrestee, identified as Rabibul (26), was captured on video assisting a woman to cross the road using ladders in the Siddhirganj area of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
According to Sharfuddin Ahmed, traffic inspector of the Kachpur highway police, Rabibul was apprehended around 8:30 pm from Siddhirganj's Rasulbag area, where he was found in possession of two ladders.
The video depicted Rabibul setting up ladders over the road divider at the Shimrail turn, assisting pedestrians to cross, and charging Tk5 for the service.
Upon interrogation, Rabibul revealed that he had observed pedestrians struggling to cross the high divider and had the idea of starting a business using ladders. He initiated the service earlier that day, charging Tk5 per crossing.
