Dhaka, Aug 11 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that more than 80,000 army personnel, along with police Ansars, will be deployed to maintain security during the upcoming parliamentary elections. Members of the Navy, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will also be actively involved in election duty.

The Advisor made these remarks following a visit to the polling station at Tegharia High School in Keraniganj on Monday morning.

He added that police officers and constables will be equipped with body cameras during the election period to ensure transparency and accountability. “The government will make every effort to hold free, fair, and festive elections,” he said, calling for cooperation from political parties and the public alike.

Addressing concerns over wrongful arrests, Lieutenant General Chowdhury stressed, “We must be careful to ensure that innocent people do not suffer under the law. Several people were booked in July and August due to greed and corruption, but the Home Ministry is working to prevent harassment of innocent individuals.”

Regarding the overall law and order situation, the Advisor noted significant improvements since last July. “Previously, no one would come to the police station. The Ansar forces were rebelling, and other forces were less active. While we have not yet reached the ideal situation, the current law and order conditions are sufficient to conduct the elections smoothly.” He further remarked that since Bangladesh’s independence, there has never been a time when law and order was entirely perfect.
