Dhaka, Aug 25 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced a reward scheme for the recovery of lost and illegal weapons, assuring that the identities of informants will be kept strictly confidential.

Speaking at a law and order meeting at the Secretariat on Monday, the advisor detailed the reward amounts: Tk 50,000 for pistols and shotguns, Tk 100,000 for Chinese rifles, Tk 150,000 for submachine guns (SMGs), Tk 500,000 for light machine guns (LMGs), and Tk 500 for each bullet recovered.

He stressed that strict measures have been taken to prevent illegal recruitment and weapons trade within law enforcement agencies. “If you see any irregularities anywhere, please inform. Many people claim to be my relatives since I became Home Affairs Advisor. If anyone introduces themselves in such a way, you must report it,” he warned.

Commenting on the controversial road closures during the arrival and departure of the Gazipur Police Commissioner, Jahangir Alam said the matter had been addressed, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) had issued a show-cause notice.

On the detention of a Bangladeshi policeman in India, the advisor said, “He will be brought back as soon as possible through Interpol. There is also a BGB–BSF agreement for exchanging suspects, and we will make every effort to use this mechanism.”

Turning to the upcoming elections, the Home Affairs Advisor remarked that electoral fairness ultimately depends on the people and political parties. “When politics becomes election-oriented, these problems will decrease. With everyone’s cooperation, we can ensure a fair election,” he said.
