Dhaka, Aug 31 (V7N) – President Mohammad Shahabuddin on Sunday morning phoned Nurul Haque Nur, President of the People's Rights Council, to inquire about his health following Friday night’s violent clashes in the capital.

According to a post on Nur’s official Facebook page, the President assured him that the government is taking necessary measures to arrange advanced treatment abroad if required. He also expressed strong condemnation and deep sorrow over the attack, wishing Nur a speedy recovery and vowing that those responsible would face stern punishment.

The violent incident occurred around 9 pm on Friday at Kakrail, where clashes broke out between leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party and the People’s Rights Council. Brick-throwing and chase-counter chase escalated the situation before law enforcement intervened with baton charges in front of the People’s Rights Council office at Bijoynagar.

At least 50 leaders and activists were injured, including Nurul Haque Nur, who sustained serious injuries. He is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where a medical board has been formed to oversee his care.
