Joypurhat, Sep 05 (V7N) – Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said that the government is actively working to stabilize potato prices amid a surge in production this year. He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at Gopinathpur High School ground in Akkelpur upazila, Joypurhat, on Friday afternoon.
“The advisory council has discussed the price of potatoes many times. Incentives are being given for potato exports, and efforts are underway to buy potatoes from the market and sell and export them through TCB. I hope that the price of potatoes will increase slightly within the next month,” Sheikh Bashiruddin said.
He noted that last year, potato prices were 80 to 90 taka per kg, which encouraged farmers to increase cultivation this year, creating an oversupply. “Purchasing through TCB alone may not be enough. Export is the only way for farmers to get a fair price,” he added.
The Trade Advisor also warned against syndicates manipulating the potato market, saying, “If there is a syndicate for potatoes, it will not be tolerated. Action will be taken against them.”
