Self-described "Hero" Alam lost the polls and his security deposit after receiving 2,175 votes in the just ended national election.
Creators of material on YouTube Alam ran in the Bogura-4 constituency using a coconut as his symbol, but he was not able to establish himself as a serious opponent for the seat, which was closely contested by independent Ziaul Haq Molla and Awami League candidate Rejaul Karim Tansen.
Tansen received 42,787 votes, 2,169 more than Molla. In the polls, Alam spoke on behalf of the Bangladesh Congress.
A candidate forfeits their security deposit, according to senior election officer Mahamud Hasan, if they do not receive one-eighth of the total votes polled.
Alam claimed that the terrible outcome was caused by his inability to conduct canvassing in a proper manner.
In their 12th national election, Bangladeshis cast their ballots on Sunday, giving the Awami League a landslide victory that will see them govern the country for the next five years.
