Dhaka, Sep 12 (V7N) – The National Consensus Commission, led by Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, held a two-hour meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna on Thursday evening to review proposals for implementing the July Charter.

The meeting discussed in detail the commission’s own recommendations as well as proposals submitted by political parties on related reforms. Members said the commission will submit its report to the interim government soon. Another round of talks with political parties is scheduled for Sunday, September 14.

The meeting also heard the proposals of the six-member committee formed earlier to facilitate the implementation of the July Charter.

Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus emphasized that reform is one of the three main mandates of the interim government, alongside elections and justice.

“The national election to be held next February is not just a general election, it is a foundational election through which the path of Bangladesh’s future will be determined. Therefore, keeping the election in mind, we must finalize the fundamental reforms,” Dr. Yunus said, stressing that the polls must be held in the first half of February without delay.

On behalf of the commission, Vice President Professor Ali Riaz, and members Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr. Md. Ayub Mia, and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Monir Haider attended the meeting.

Advisors to the interim government Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Asif Nazrul, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman were also present.
