Nasrul Hamid, the State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, emphasized Bangladesh's commitment to prioritizing environmental conservation in all developmental endeavors. Speaking during a panel discussion titled "Dialogue Hub: Energy-Water-Food Nexus: Holistic Solutions for Food and Water Supply Powered by Renewables" at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2024 in Germany, he highlighted the nation's focus on sustainable agricultural systems and renewable energy advancements. Specifically, Nasrul mentioned the initiative to replace diesel-powered irrigation pumps with solar ones, aimed at reducing carbon emissions and conserving groundwater resources. The plan entails installing 45,000 solar irrigation pumps by 2031, benefiting around 1.3 million farmers in Bangladesh.
Furthermore, Nasrul emphasized the significant role of modern solar irrigation systems in reducing diesel consumption and mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change. He called for increased utilization and investment in renewable energy to address the issue of groundwater over-extraction. Nasrul underscored the importance of international collaboration, technological innovation, financial resource sharing, and experience exchange to achieve sustainable development goals. He urged developed countries, including Germany, to take the lead in facilitating technology transfer. Representatives from various participating countries at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue-2024 attended the discussion.
