Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N) – The government has announced strict penalties for gambling, fraud, and deception in cyberspace under Section 20 of the newly issued Cyber Security Ordinance-2025. Offenders may face up to two years in prison, a maximum fine of Tk 1 crore, or both.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued the directive in a government bulletin on Friday.
According to the ordinance, any person, institution, company, or organization involved in creating or operating portals, apps, or devices for online gambling—or participating, assisting, encouraging, or promoting such activities—will be subject to punishment. This includes advertisements and promotions on platforms such as Facebook, Google, YouTube, WhatsApp, Twitter, and TikTok.
The government has urged all parties to refrain from supporting gambling activities. Authorities have also instructed electronic, print, and social media outlets to urgently shut down, block, or remove all online gambling gateways, applications, websites, links, and advertisements in the public interest to prevent crime and strengthen cyber security.
