New York, Sep 22 (V7N) – Bangladesh has welcomed the recent recognition of Palestine by the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal, calling it a significant step toward Palestinian independence.

Speaking to Jamuna Television in New York, Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain reaffirmed Bangladesh’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause. “Since we have always been in favor of Palestine and have supported their people, we welcome the recognition of these four countries. We think this is good news,” he said.

With the latest moves by the UK, Canada, Australia, and Portugal, more than 150 countries now officially recognize Palestine. Touhid Hossain noted that this development strengthens international backing for the Palestinian people in their pursuit of statehood.

He further highlighted that France has signaled its intent to recognize Palestine in the near future. If realized, Palestine would gain recognition from four of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.

The Foreign Affairs Advisor, however, cautioned that Palestinians still face a long road ahead despite these diplomatic advances. He added that the UN General Assembly is expected to debate ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza in its upcoming session.
