New York, Sep 23 (V7N) – Professor Muhammad Yunus, Principal Advisor to the Interim Government, has arrived in New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
On Monday, Yunus spoke at a high-level side event on “Social Business, Youth and Technology”, where he highlighted Bangladesh’s challenges and aspirations as it prepares to graduate from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category.
“Despite hosting more than 1.3 million Rohingya refugees, coping with climate shocks, and facing global economic instability, Bangladesh is preparing for graduation,” Yunus said. He warned that reducing the UN budget or cutting development aid at this stage would be “counterproductive,” stressing the need for increased international assistance, stronger technical support, and a just transition for vulnerable nations.
“The path to a developed world cannot be measured by past failures—it must be built on today’s courage, today’s actions, and today’s steadfast commitment to change,” Yunus added. He also emphasized the importance of social business, multilateral diplomacy, deeper cooperation, and collective commitment to sustainable development.
This year, the Chief Advisor’s entourage includes six political leaders: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Acting Chairman’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, National Citizens Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, NCP Joint Convener Dr. Tasnim Zara, and Jamaat leader Naqibur Rahman Tareq (joining from the U.S.).
