Chapainawabganj, Sep 26 (V7N) – Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar has said that the movement by Jamaat-e-Islami demanding a proportional representation (PR) system and the complications surrounding the National Citizens Party (NCP) election symbol will have no impact on the conduct of the upcoming national elections.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after inaugurating a workshop titled “Identifying and Overcoming Challenges in the Performance of Duties of Polling Officials in the Election Process” at Shaheed Satu Hall Auditorium in Chapainawabganj on Friday.

The commissioner emphasized that individuals who were involved in vote rigging in previous elections would not be allowed to perform election duties again. He assured that the Election Commission (EC) is fully prepared to hold the 13th National Parliament elections under existing laws.

To strengthen transparency, he said measures are being taken to monitor the electoral process through mobile teams, mobile courts, inquiry and observer teams, as well as mobile apps. These steps are aimed at preventing both vote rigging and obstruction of journalists in carrying out their professional duties.

The event was also addressed by Election Commission Additional Secretary AKM Newaz, Chapainawabganj Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdus Samad, and Superintendent of Police Rezaul Karim, among others.
