Dhaka, Sep 30 (V7N) – The National Citizens Party (NCP) and the Bangladesh National League have met the initial requirements for registration as political parties, the Election Commission (EC) said on Tuesday. However, complications over the NCP’s election symbol remain unresolved.

Speaking to reporters in the afternoon, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said that out of 143 parties that applied for registration, 22 were shortlisted at the initial stage. Following scrutiny, the NCP and the National League fulfilled the conditions set by the EC.

“The symbol requested by the Bangladesh National League is correct. However, due to complications with the NCP’s chosen symbol, we will send them a letter to confirm their preference,” he said.

The EC is also keeping three parties under observation:

  • Bangladesh Aam Janaaz Party

  • Jatiya Janata Party

  • JSD (Shahjahan Siraj)

Further investigation will be carried out into the effectiveness of nine other parties, including Aam Janata Dal, Bangladesh Ganotantrik Party, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marx), Bangladesh Justice and Development Party, Moolik Bangla, Janata Party Bangladesh, Bhashani Janashakti Party and Bangladesh Bekar Mukti Parishad.
