Dhaka, Oct 3 (V7N) – Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep sorrow at the passing of veteran language movement activist, poet, essayist, and Rabindra scholar Ahmad Rafique.

In a condolence message, Professor Yunus said Ahmad Rafique was not only a distinguished witness and powerful voice of the historic Language Movement but also an exceptional poet, essayist, researcher, and a guiding figure in Rabindra studies. With the authorship and editing of over a hundred books, he enriched Bangla literature, culture, and the history of the Language Movement. His scholarship in Tagore studies earned him respect on both sides of Bengal, including recognition from Kolkata’s Tagore Research Institute, which honored him with the title of Rabindratattwacharya, a testament to his profound erudition.

“His death is an irreparable loss to the country’s cultural and intellectual sphere. Despite losing his eyesight and suffering physical illness, he continued to spread the light of knowledge until his last days,” the Chief Adviser noted.

He prayed for the eternal peace of Ahmad Rafique’s soul and added, “His life and works will inspire future generations, and the nation will remember him with gratitude.”

Professor Yunus also extended his heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family, admirers, and the literary and cultural community.
