Dhaka, Oct 07 (V7N) – Bangladesh and Turkey held a Foreign Secretary-level meeting at the State Guest House Padma on Tuesday (October 7), aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in key sectors.

The meeting, which began at 10:30 a.m., was led by Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam on behalf of Bangladesh, while Deputy Foreign Minister A. Beris Ekinci represented Turkey.

According to a joint statement issued after the meeting, both sides discussed various ways to diversify trade, enhance connectivity, expand investment, and promote joint ventures. The discussions also emphasized the importance of convening the next session of the Joint Economic Commission (JEC) at the earliest opportunity.

Bangladesh urged Turkish investors to increase their investments in the country, highlighting Bangladesh’s strategic location and growing economic potential. The two delegations also reviewed the progress of ongoing defense and security cooperation, underscoring the mutual commitment to stronger strategic ties.

During the talks, Bangladesh expressed deep gratitude for Turkey’s continued support in the health sector, including the treatment of those injured during the ‘July Revolution’ and the operation of Turkey’s field hospital in the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar. Both sides also discussed prospects for expanding health cooperation in the coming years.

Following the meeting, the visiting Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister also held a separate meeting with the Foreign Affairs Adviser of Bangladesh to discuss broader issues of mutual interest.
