Following the tragic deaths of five individuals from fever-related complications, including hemoptysis and abdominal pain, a dedicated medical team has launched door-to-door treatment services in Thega Chandabi Ghat village of Bhushanchhara union, located in Barkal upazila of Rangamati.

Led by Dr. Mong Kyshing Sagar, the Barkal Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, the seven-member medical team has been divided into three groups to commence treatment as of Thursday.

Reports indicate that since January until March 17, the village has witnessed the unfortunate demise of five individuals due to fever, hemoptysis, and abdominal pain.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Nihar Ranjan Nandi expressed concern over the situation, emphasizing the urgent need for medical attention. He highlighted the symptoms, suggesting a possible gastrointestinal disease, likely exacerbated by poor dietary habits leading to vomiting.

Dr. Nandi stressed the importance of timely medical intervention, emphasizing the dangers of relying on traditional healers instead of seeking professional healthcare.

The medical team has been instructed to prioritize the treatment of severely affected individuals, with plans to transfer them to the upazila health complex or district hospital for comprehensive care, according to Dr. Nandi.

Local authorities, including Preeti Shankar Dewan, a member of Bhushanchhara union parishad, and Shiv Ratan Chakma, the village head, noted the widespread impact of the outbreak, affecting numerous families and generating fear among residents. They highlighted the lack of nearby medical facilities, further exacerbating the situation.

UNO Forkan Anupam Elahi assured ongoing monitoring by the upazila administration, with additional support from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) due to the village's proximity to the border, ensuring round-the-clock assistance for affected communities.
