Dhaka, Nov 06 (V7N)- Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman has stated that elections can be conducted from his position, and that there is no constitutional obstacle to doing so. He made the remarks on Thursday (November 6) after attending the hearing on the state’s appeal to restore the caretaker government system.
He said, "The verdict to return to the caretaker government system will be a milestone in Bangladesh's path forward. The law will be made as the people want it. The people will run the country."
During the hearing, the Attorney General added that the previous verdict abolishing the caretaker government system had "dealt a blow to society," undermining constitutional institutions and affecting the electoral process, including instances where deceased persons were allowed to vote.
Earlier on Wednesday (November 5), Md. Asaduzzaman had announced his resignation as Attorney General and expressed his intention to seek BNP's nomination from the Jhenaidah-1 constituency. However, a day later, he indicated that he would contest elections from his current position.
