Dhaka, Nov 17 (V7N) – The long-awaited agreement for the deployment of personnel from the Bangladesh Armed Forces to the Qatar Armed Forces has been signed. The ceremony took place on Sunday in Doha, Qatar, according to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Bangladesh.
The agreement was signed by Lieutenant General S.M. Kamrul Hasan, Principal Staff Officer of the Bangladesh Armed Forces Division, and Lieutenant General (Pilot) Jassim bin Mohammed Al Mannai, Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces. The signing ceremony was attended by Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Qatar, Mohammad Hazrat Ali Khan, delegation members, and officials from the Bangladeshi Embassy.
Under the agreement, members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces will be deployed to serve in the Qatar Armed Forces. Initially, around 800 personnel will be sent, with the potential for future increases. The deployment term is initially set for three years and may be extended up to six years based on performance.
This agreement opens new avenues for sending skilled personnel to Qatar, strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries. It also provides financial benefits to the Bangladeshi forces and enables the Bangladesh government to earn a significant amount of foreign currency.
During the visit, the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division is expected to hold discussions with senior Qatari officials and military industry representatives on various bilateral and strategic matters.
The agreement follows the visit of Bangladesh Government’s Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus to Qatar from April 21-25 for the ‘Arthana’ conference, during which he discussed bilateral interests with key Qatari officials. His diplomatic engagement facilitated the expedited signing of this agreement between the Bangladesh and Qatar Armed Forces.
