Dhaka, Dec 30 (V7N)- The Cabinet Division has issued a notification declaring three days of state mourning following the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

According to the notification issued on Tuesday (December 30), the state mourning will be observed from Wednesday to Friday (December 31 to January 2).

The notification stated that Khaleda Zia, a three-time former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), passed away while undergoing treatment. (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un). The interim government expressed deep sorrow at the demise of the veteran political leader, describing her as an uncompromising figure in the movement to restore democracy in the country.

As part of the state mourning program, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, educational institutions, and both government and private buildings across Bangladesh. The national flag will also be flown at half-mast at Bangladesh missions abroad during the three-day mourning period.

The notification further said that special prayers will be offered in all mosques across the country next Friday seeking forgiveness and eternal peace for the departed soul of the former Prime Minister. Special prayers will also be arranged in other religious institutions according to respective faiths.
