Dhaka, Dec 31 (V7N) — Professor Dr Md Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with the rank of State Minister, has resigned from his position. The President has accepted his resignation, according to a statement issued on Tuesday night by the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s office.
A government notification from the Cabinet Division stated that Dr Sayedur Rahman had been exercising executive powers in the Health Ministry as Special Assistant with the status of State Minister under the caretaker government.
Last November, the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, appointed three special assistants with the rank of State Minister to support the advisers of the Ministries of Home Affairs, Health, and Education. These special assistants were granted executive authority in their respective ministries.
Among them, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khoda Baksh Chowdhury was assigned to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Professor Dr Md Sayedur Rahman was assigned to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Professor M Aminul Islam was assigned to the Ministry of Education.
Professor M Aminul Islam resigned a few months ago, while Khoda Baksh Chowdhury resigned on December 25. Dr Sayedur Rahman is the latest to resign from these interim government positions.
The resignations mark the gradual exit of key special assistants from the caretaker government, which had been tasked with overseeing administrative functions and ensuring continuity across critical ministries.
