Dhaka, Jan 05 (V7N) — The Election Commission (EC) has completed the scrutiny of nomination papers for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, declaring 1,842 candidates valid while rejecting 723 nominations.
The list of valid candidates was published by the EC on Sunday. According to the commission, a total of 3,406 nomination forms were distributed for the election, of which 2,568 were submitted. After verification, 1,842 nominations were found valid, while the remaining were rejected for various reasons. Candidates whose nominations were rejected have been given the opportunity to file appeals.
Region-wise data released by the EC shows that in the Dhaka region, 309 nominations were declared valid and 133 were rejected. In Chattogram, 138 candidates were approved while 56 nominations were canceled. Rajshahi region saw 185 valid nominations and 74 rejections, while in Khulna, 196 candidates were approved and 79 were disqualified.
In Barishal, 131 candidates were declared valid and 31 nominations were rejected. Sylhet region recorded 110 valid candidates and 36 rejections. In Mymensingh, 199 nominations were approved, while 112 were rejected. Cumilla region saw 259 valid candidates and 97 cancellations, while in Rangpur, 219 candidates were approved and 59 nominations were rejected. In Faridpur region, 96 candidates were declared valid and 46 nominations were canceled.
The EC also noted that due to the death of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, nomination processes for three constituencies—Dinajpur-3, Bogura-7, and Feni-1—were concluded without scrutiny.
The commission stated that any candidate aggrieved by the scrutiny results may appeal within the stipulated timeframe. Following the appeal hearings, the final list of candidates may be revised accordingly.
