Dhaka, Jan 11 (V7N) — Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin has assured that the recent controversy surrounding the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches will not affect bilateral trade between Bangladesh and India. He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Sunday (January 11).
Sheikh Bashiruddin said that although imports have decreased in some sectors, there has been no overall decline in trade with India. “Bangladesh believes in free trade and wants to maintain open trade relations with all countries,” he emphasized.
He added that the government is implementing a new Import Policy Order (IPO) to introduce structural and systematic reforms aimed at liberalizing trade, ensuring inclusion, and maintaining fairness.
Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman also noted that import policies are being revised to make trade easier by relaxing existing conditions. While some sectors have experienced temporary import disruptions from India, resulting in minor decreases in exports, officials say overall trade remains stable.
