Dhaka, Feb 17 (V7N) — Newly elected lawmakers from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) took oath as members of the 13th National Parliament at the oath-taking hall of the National Parliament Building at around 10:45 AM on Tuesday.

The oath was administered by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, while Kaniz Maula, Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, conducted the ceremony. MPs began arriving at the parliament complex from around 9 AM, with crowds gathering outside to witness the historic moment.

Reform Council Debate

Discussions were ongoing regarding whether MPs would also take oath as members of the Constitution Reform Council. However, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said, citing constitutional provisions, that BNP lawmakers would not take that oath.

Presence of BNP Leadership

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman attended the ceremony accompanied by his wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Jayma Rahman.

Election Results Snapshot

  • Elections were held on February 12 across 299 constituencies.

  • Results for 297 seats have been declared.

  • BNP and its allies secured 212 seats, while the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance won 77 seats.

Following the BNP and allied MPs, lawmakers from the 11-party alliance began arriving for the second phase of the oath ceremony, with Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman already present at the parliament complex.
