DHAKA, Feb 21, (V7N) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today set a unique precedent by offering prayers for the Language Movement martyrs after placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.

Traditionally, heads of state and government leave the Shaheed Minar after laying wreaths. However, the premier stood at the premises and joined a special doa seeking forgiveness for the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement, the 1971 Liberation War, the 1990 anti-autocracy movement, and the 2024 July Uprising.

Dhaka University Central Mosque Senior Imam and Khatib Hafez Mowlana Nazir Mahmud conducted the prayer, which also sought blessings for Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former three-time Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Earlier, at 12:08 am, the Prime Minister paid homage to the language martyrs by placing a wreath at the Shaheed Minar. Following the doa, he also placed wreaths on behalf of his cabinet, BNP, and the family members of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia.

The prayers included appeals for the welfare of the nation and success of the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
