The High Court has intervened by issuing a stay order on the notification banning student politics at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), allowing student political activities to resume on campus. This decision follows a writ petition filed by Buet student and Chhatra League leader Imtiaz Hossain Rahim Rabbi. The High Court bench, comprising Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar, passed the order in response to the petition. The move comes after a recent incident where Chhatra League leaders and activists entered the Buet campus, sparking protests from students. The students presented a six-point demand, including the enforcement of the ban on student politics on campus. While the Buet administration partially accepted some demands, including the cancellation of Imtiaz Hossain Rahim Rabbi's dormitory seat and the formation of an investigation committee, academic activities are to continue uninterrupted. Student political activities had been prohibited at Buet following the tragic murder of Abrar Fahad by Chhatra League members in 2019.
