DHAKA, July 7, (V7N) – Water levels have seen varied movements across Bangladesh's rivers, with 48 stations monitored by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) reporting a rise, while an equal number of 48 stations recorded a fall.

According to a bulletin issued by the FFWC today, among the 119 monitored river stations, water levels at nine stations remained steady, and significantly, no stations are currently flowing above the danger level.

The FFWC bulletin indicates that all major rivers are presently flowing below the danger mark. The water levels of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna rivers are stable today and are likely to remain steady over the next 1 day, with a potential rise during the subsequent 4 days (July 8 to 12). Despite this anticipated increase, these rivers are expected to remain below their danger levels.

The Ganges River is experiencing rising water levels, a trend that may continue over the next 5 days (July 7 to 12). Conversely, the Padma River's water level is stable and is likely to continue this trend for the next 3 days before potentially rising during the following 2 days (July 10 to 12). During this entire period, both rivers are expected to flow below the danger level.

In the northeastern region, the Surma River's water level is falling, while the Kushiyara River remains stable and is flowing below the danger level. Over the next 3 days (July 7 to 10), the water levels of these rivers are expected to remain steady. Moderate to moderately heavy rainfall is anticipated in this basin over the next three days.

In the Chattogram division, the Sangu and Matamuhuri rivers are showing rising water levels, while the Halda River is falling. The water levels of the Sangu, Matamuhuri, and Halda rivers may rise over the next 2 days and then stabilize on the subsequent day. However, they are expected to flow below the danger level. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in this basin over the next 2 days, followed by moderate to moderately heavy rainfall on the third day.

Coastal rivers in the Barishal, Khulna, and Chattogram divisions are currently experiencing higher-than-normal tidal water levels, a condition that may persist for the next 3 days. This is linked to a low-pressure system that continues to prevail over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. This basin is also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 2 days, with moderate to moderately heavy rainfall forecast for the following day.
