Tragedy struck in Savar on Tuesday as at least two individuals lost their lives and nine others sustained injuries in a devastating incident where five vehicles burst into flames after an oil-laden lorry overturned.
The mishap occurred in the Jorpul area of Hemayetpur, prompting an immediate response from three units of the fire service to extinguish the raging blaze.
The deceased have been identified as Iqbal and Nazrul Islam, while the injured, including Milon Molla (22), Mim (10), Al-Amin (35), Nironjon (45), Helal (30), Abdus Salam (35), Sakib (24), and Md Al Amin (22), have been rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka. Seven of the injured individuals have been admitted to the hospital, as confirmed by Resident Surgeon Dr. Md Tariqul Islam.
Officer-in-Charge Md Babul of Savar Highway police station reported that the accident resulted in the ignition of four trucks and a private car, leading to a halt in vehicular movement along the Dhaka-Aricha highway. Efforts are underway by the police to normalize traffic in the affected area.
